Message #8 – Crafting Your Weekly Press Release

Here’s the components of your personal weekly press release:

Release time: The date you pick – make it at the end of the week even if you won’t have finished that chunk in just one week. One purpose of this process is to create accountability.

Headline: this must be attention grabbing while conveying the topic of the release

Project Name: This is a brief overview of the main points. This should include the project name if you have one and if this is a chunk of a project. This could be something like “family time” “training for a marathon” etc.

Dateline: you can eliminate this or make it specific to the type of item such as business, family, spiritual, fitness, health etc. That will help you categorize your chunk – perhaps something like “this is week 5 of 16 in my marathon training”

Body: This is the meat of it. Answer the 5 Ws – who what where when why. And if you’re feeling good about the process you can put the how too.

Call to Action: I would use this to tell yourself (and whomever you show it to) what your next week’s actions need to be. This helps you set up the continuation.

Closing but we’re going to call this “evaluation”: Differing from real press releases, consider giving yourself a grade or evaluation. This also gives you something to strive to improve or maintain if you’re happy with your performance.
